Will the latest Rainbow Six:Siege Patch destroy the game?
On 16th of January 2020 a big controversy across social media started. The new ADS for Rainbow Six:Siege got announced. Many people were going crazy about it, especially on Twitter. But what exactly is going on with Rainbow Six:Siege?
Every season the Rainbow Six Community gets a mid-season Patch, called “Designer´s Notes”. In this Patch a major change by Ubisoft is happening. Patch Y4S4.3 is coming with an increase of Aim down sight time for every weapon:
Assault rifle from 0.3s to 0.4s
Designated marksman rifle [DMR] from 0.3s to 0.4s
Submachine gun [SMG] from 0.2s to 0.3s
Light machine gun [LMG] from 0.4s to 0.45s
Pistol from 0.1s to 0.2s
Submachine gun [SMG] in secondary (SMG-11, SMG-12, Bearing-9, C75 Auto) from 0.1s to 0.275s
Shotgun: from 0.2s to 0.25s
Many Players called it an end of the smoke main era, others said that it will help decreasing the speed of the game. Along with the damage increase of Smoke´s FMG9 from 30 to 34, Smoke mains will definetly have a better option to choose. But will this new ADS time actually destroy the game? The answer should be no. As the “new” ADS time is just a correction from Operation Ember Rise (Y4S3), in which Ubisoft increased the ADS time. So the “new” ADS time is actually quite similiar to the ADS time before Operation Ember Rise according to Ubisoft. As the current meta is quite fast, this will surely help bringing back the more tactical part of siege.
What else got changed in the mid-season patch of Y4S4?
Echo is getting a nerf. His Yokai drones can now be hacked by Dokkaebi and his Yokai drones are now more visible when they are not cloaked.
This will surely help reducing his 73% banrate in Ranked. The most nerfed operator is actually getting a buff. We are talking about Ela. The recoil of Ela´s Scorpion Evo3 is highly reduced and now actually controllable. To increase Wamai´s pickrate, which currently is around about 20%, Jäger´s gun is getting a nerf.
The damage is decreased from 43 to 38. Another highly controversial nerf is Maestros ACOG removal. Many pros think that this is the right direction but still not enough. Let´s see how it turns out. These changes are the most important ones in Patch 4.3.
The new Vulkan API for Rainbow Six:Siege.
In Patch 4.3 Ubisoft decided to highly increase the perfomance level of Rainbow Six:Siege (at least for most players). By changing the Graphic Application Programming Interface (API) from DirectX11 to Vulkan. The API is the communication wire between the game and the hardware (CPU and GPU).
To make it short: any Input of your mouse or keyboard is recognized by the game. This input is sent to the API which then says the CPU what to do. The CPU now sends the commands for the GPU and now you will get your screen output. This process is very fast (nanoseconds), but still can be faster.
Since the DirectX11 API is already 12 years old, Ubisoft decided to test out some newer APIs. DirectX12 was an option, but the Vulkan API performed better according to Ubisoft.
Many players got a big increase of perfomance with the new API Vulkan. We are happy to see, how Ubisoft increased the perfomance of the game massively.
